Succession S04 E03 was one of the best pieces of television ever made

The most recent episode of Succession, Connor’s Wedding, was one of the best pieces of television I’ve ever seen.

It’s right up there with the Pine Barrens episode of The Sopranos. It’s that good. (That could be recency bias. I suppose time will tell).

Btw, the following article is going to contain lots of spoilers so please don’t read it unless you’ve seen the Succession episode in question.

It’s also, because the episode was so bloody brilliant, going to be done in list format because there’s so much bloody brilliance to cover.

So what was so amazing about this episode?

  • Well, the best character in the show died. That isn’t always a good thing but it does demonstrate that (a) Succession can be placed in the same category as other shows not afraid to kill off their best characters (hi there, Ned Stark) and (b) that now a succession can truly begin. It’s been great hearing Brian Cox tell people to fuck off or variants thereof (“One email? Please, don’t exhaust yourself”) but all good things must come to an end and now we can see which of his dreadful offspring will manipulate themselves to the top of the pile. It’s like when Brock Lesnar or someone huge gets thrown out of the Royal Rumble. Now we’re going to see all kinds of…
