The 5 things EA needs to change for FIFA 22

We’ve reached the ‘end game’ point for FIFA 21. While there might be a good four months of play time left before the next version drops (it’s usually in September), and some of those months will be consumed by the genuinely always-fun Euros content, we’re at a point where everyone’s squad is super jacked and stats below 95 are now considered, well, shit.

So what does EA need to look at doing for FIFA 22? There are plenty of things they should do, of course. Whether they will or not is another matter. Common opinion is that FIFA 21 is very, very bad, that it is in fact one of the worst editions of the game of all time (the reality is it has huge problems but the majority are exaggerated by people who need to expend their frustrations after vast losing streaks).

However, improving it shouldn’t be too difficult, because there are some glaring issues. Here’s a few ideas…

1. No more auto defending

There are many gameplay deficiencies with FIFA 21 but by far the biggest is that it rewards you for not playing the match.

On several occasions I’ve been in the midst of an absolute thrashing and have decided to simply put the controller down in an attempt to restore some wellbeing and to stop feeling so cross. Without the distraction of my attempts to control and position my defenders…
